When we travel, we are “tourists”, guests of a place and of the people who call it home. Yet often, we long to feel part of that world, to discover it and see it through the eyes of the locals.

As the saying goes: “Eat where the locals eat, and you’ll find the best restaurants.”

Immersing ourselves in a place means adapting to its rhythms, tasting specialties and dishes we’ve never tried before and listening to stories born from everyday life. The true treasure of a small town is the elder sitting on a bench, keeper of memories, anecdotes and curiosities… just waiting to be shared.

This is how the Local Greeters Langhe Experience project was born: human connections, the identity of the places and sustainability are at the heart of this new initiative — yet in a way that feels timeless, echoing the authentic values of hospitality!

The Local Greeters Langhe Experience Project

👉 Who are the Greeters?
Greeters are trained volunteers, ready to welcome visitors to small villages with a smile, sharing authentic anecdotes, personal experiences and tips for enjoying the territory in a slow and respectful way. They do not replace guides or tour leaders but accompany them naturally, creating a human bridge between guests and the local community.

🌍 Originating in New York in the 1990s, Greeters offer free, informal walks — as they would for friends or family — eager to share stories, hidden corners and the everyday life of their hometown. The aim is to create a genuine cultural exchange, called a Greet.

🌿 Slow and conscious tourism

The project promotes the enhancement of lesser-known villages, local traditions and local supply chains. It encourages intergenerational dialogue and ensures that the benefits of tourism are distributed fairly.

📸 After our Training Days on June 18–19, 2025, led by Professor Giancarlo Dall’Ara, the Local Greeters Langhe Experience network officially came to life. We learned that:
🔑 Hospitality is about relationships, not just service
🤝 Without connection, there is no true welcome
👀 A Greeter offers a fresh perspective on the place they live
💚 A “place of the heart” exists only if it creates bonds and memories

📣 Thus was born the Local Greeters Langhe Experience network: a project that brings the authentic heartbeat of the UNESCO hills to life, creating real emotions between visitors and those who live there every day.

Special thanks to Professor Giancarlo Dall’Ara for guiding and training us in creating this project and its widespread hospitality community.
